"Clean, friendly hotel"
I visited the Hotel Ustel in Brussels for three nights in late September 2006, and I found my small single room to be very clean and comfortable--much better than some of the earlier reviews of the hotel would suggest! By no means is the hotel luxurious, but I wasn't looking for that. As a middle-aged female traveller on my own, I wanted a reasonably priced, clean and convenient hotel, and that's exactly what I found. The staff were always friendly and helpful, and they made me feel right at home from the start. Breakfasts were delicious, too, with a wide choice of food, including cereal, eggs, juice, sausages, cheeses, and cold meats, served in pleasant dining areas. The hotel has an attached restaurant where I had an excellent dinner on my first night. I'm really pleased that I found this hotel--the only thing that would have been better was if it were nearer the Grand Place in the center of Brussels. It's only about a 15-minute walk, but I was told that at night I might not feel safe walking back on my own, so after dark I took taxis. But even those didn't cost more than a few euros, so I didn't mind. I definitely recommend this hotel and would like to stay there again.

"great cheap city break"
Just got back from Brussels on a 2 day trip. Well I can’t believe what people write. I went to this hotel with my wife. Before I went I went on to Trip Advisor to see what people wrote about the place. At first I was a bit scarred and thought I was going to be turned over. The whole experience was really good. The people around the hotel ie the locals were friendly and showed us the way to the hotel. When we got to the hotel I though the entrance was really nice. The person behind the desk was really nice. We thought what can go wrong I know the room will be really bad. We was wrong the room was great. We were on the first floor. Big bed great bathroom and very clean. We got ourselves ready to go to the Christmas market. After a 15mins walk we had to ask somebody we went the wrong way. After finding the right place it was great to be there. We decided not to stay there long and to catch a taxi back as the area was meant to be a bad area. Ayway after looking around the market and area we decided to walk back. It was really good didn’t fill that I was going to be attacked or mucked. So that was the day over with. At night I woke up feeling thirsty so I went down to the lobby to ask for a bottle of coke. The guy behind the desk said I will have to go outside. Just around the corner was a 24hr shop. So I went to the shop no one was about I was quite good. The time was just gone midnight. Anyway went back to sleep and got up in the morning to have a really great breakfast. Lots of food and cocked just right. This was our last day so we got our packs and lefty the hotel. So we were there for 2 whole days and really enjoyed it. I hope this helps if people read it.

"Great Hotel with Outstanding Value"
This is a nice clean hotel with good modern facilities. I can't imagine you could do any better for the prices you pay. We had a great time there and the food and facilities catered for all our needs with good transport facilities close to hand with trains, buses, metrotrams and the metro all within 2mins walk. Highley recommended.

"Brussels, a great city to visit & the Ustel Hotel a good tourist place to stay"
Visited Brussells 9-12 January 2005, This is my 5th visit to the city in 5 years, which shows I really like the place. The Ustel is near South (Suid-Midi) Rail Station (3-4 minutes walk), and is a very clean hotel with nice rooms and the buffet breakfast is excellent. We stayed just after new year and the price was low for what we got. Brussells is a cosmopolitan city and the choice of restaurants and other small places to eat truly brings this point home. You can eat well on any budget. The number of cafe bars is astronomical and the choice of beers is the same. Belgium is famed for its beer and Brussells does reflect this. The bottled beer is fatal (too strong for mass consumption), and my favourite is Jupiler, the local brew. Maes and Stella Artois are widely available and are excellent to. The fact that Brussells is a capitol city and also has a major EU presence does not mean that you get ripped off. London, Paris and a number of Italian cities would do well to learn from Brussells.
