"My Parent's Favorite Place to Stay"
I live a block away from the Valadon. My parents have stayed there on at least 5 separate occasions over the past 8 years. They have been very happy with it and never wanted to stay anyplace else.
It is located on a very quiet street in a safe residential neighborhood. Walk one block south and you're in the heart of the gay neighborhood of West Hollywood, with dozens of bars and restaurants very close by. Walk a block north and you're on the Sunset Strip and amidst all of the legendary rock clubs. If you're coming to LA for the nightlife, you can't get a better location than the Valadon.
Obviously, the hotel is an EXTREMELY gay-friendly establishment.... but still the kind of place that my 70 year old parents feel right at home in. Their rooms have always been great. I believe they always stay in the junior suites, which are spacious and have kitchen areas.
The pool is definitely small and not for any serious swimming. The rooftop deck it is on is nice and has great views of West Hollywood.
My parents never had a car here, but I can understand the problems with parking. Basically, since there are so many nearby nightclubs, there are serious parking restrictions here, and there is no way one could park on the street overnight without a residential permit.... so, the hotel knows it can get away with charging a huge fee for parking in their lot. This would be the only really negative thing I coulld think of about the hotel and the neighborhood.
Anyway, the highest complement I can give is that I liked it enough to put my own parents there... and they liked it enough to keep coming back again and again and again.

"Cute place, good location"
My husband and I stayed at the Valadon on a Saturday night. Upon check in, we were given a first floor room, which didn't really excite me. The room itself was clean, there was a basket of fruit and some water which was nice, since LA was so hot that weekend. Also, the A/C was set to a nice cool temperature, much better than some hotels that don't have the thermostat set until you get there. The Valadon is within walking distance to the Sunset Strip. However, for the elderly or on a hot day, the walk is completely uphill and I wouldn't recommend it. After checking in, we drove to the Getty Museum, which is an easy drive.
That evening we went up to the roof top pool and deck. The sign on the door says that this closes at 10:30 but was still open at 11pm when we arrived. I thought that there would be more people there but we were the only ones. One of the problems with this being an older property is that you can hear the people above you and next door to you walking, or flushing the toilet. It wasn't enough of a problem to warrant a complaint but if you had noisy neighbors, it could be annoying. Overall I liked the charm and the front desk staff was nice too. I would stay here again.
