"Excellent choice for Toronto"
My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights at the Valhalla Inn at the end of October 2004. We were first a little apprehensive and only booked for 2 nights, but our concerns were soon proved unnecessary.
The hotel is big - 12 floors plus a number of cottage-like rooms. We stayed on the 7th floor with great view towards downtown Toronto, the CN Tower and even the lake to the south. The room was probably 600 sq ft (60 m2), super cute, with desk, couch, office chair, chair with ottoman, big screen TV in armoire, two night stands with lamps, etc. Bathroom was nice too - the fan wasn't terribly noisy and the neon light wasn't annoyingly white. Everything worked perfectly, didn't look worn and was super clean.
The included breakfast could either be ordered via roomservice or consumed in one of the restaurants on-site. We tried both and preferred roomservice. Good food!
Parking on premises. Our room had broadband Internet (C$15 extra though).
Swimming pool deserves a chapter of its own; the deepest we've ever seen - ranging from 3 to 10 ft (3.3 meters). Located in a green house-like area, the pool area was inviting and the large co-ed sauna nice to relax in.
Staff was friendly, although maybe slightly inexperienced. Resolved all questions and issues to our complete satisfaction though.
We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Toronto. The location is 20 mins by car to downtown and 15 to the airport, and you will need a car as there is just about nothing in walking distance from the hotel (located in residential neighborhood) except a supermarket.
Excellent value for the money here!
