"What a charming hotel"
A charming hotel in the city of Cairo. You can tell they are use to real travellers and they have everything you could possibly need available. The room was large and clean, the breakfast was good, the dinner that was offered in the evening was the best of our entire trip and was dirt cheap. They had internet service available, water to buy and a darling outdoor garden to sit in. This hotel is a must.

"Loved the Victoria: Great Vintage Hotel"
We stayed at the Victoria hotel a total of 11 days out of our 22 day stay in Egypt this late June 2005 and Mid July 2005, 2 days at the beginning of our stay and 9 days at the end.
We loved this vintage hotel that was located very near the main train station..a 2 minute walk down the street. It was less than 2 blocks from 2 metro stops. The Egyptian museum was a 20 minute walk or a 2 stop/5minute metro ride away and the Khan El Khalili was a 5 minute cab ride or 20 minute walk away.
The hotel staff were very friendly, cheerful and helpful There was buffet breakfast consisting of breads, cheeses, cold sliced meats, tomatoes, cucumbers, ful (beans), an egg dish, jam, hibiscus juice, cornflakes and cookies with tea or nescafe. It you didn't like the egg dish of the the day they would make any style egg you liked for you.
There is a nice little garden and an internet cafe that is open 24 hrs. It is very inexpensive ie 14LE/hour as compared to the 60LE/hour at another hotel we stayed at during our stay.
Both times we had spacious clean rooms with lovely hardwood floor, oriental area rugs, vintage period furniture and great airconditioning. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean with ample towels.
You could get fresh fruit juice, soft drinks, tea or coffee and small sandwiches/snacks served 24 hours in the large homey sitting room off the lobby. There is a small airconditioned bar next to the sitting room that serves alcohol. In the sitting room there is large book shelf stocked with books that fellow travelers have finished and left behind...you are welcome to help yourself or leave one of your own for the next person.
