Remains faithful to a very traditional idea of Parisian elegance...
Victoria Palace Hotel remains faithful to a very traditional idea of Parisian elegance. The hotel has been a landmark on the Left Bank since 1913 and served as a Parisian home to major figures such as the Irish writer James Joyce and the Italian painter Giorgio De Chirico. The Victoria Palace is a deluxe hotel located on Paris' "Left Bank", on a quiet street just off the bustling Rue de Rennes. Since 1913, this hotel with its elegant limestone facade has been a landmark in the area. In this lively district, guests will find a variety of shops and restaurants.
A spectacular renovation in 2000 brought the Victoria Palace up to new levels of comfort and convenience. The Victoria Palace has its own private garage for guest parking.
The guestrooms are much larger than those of any other hotel on the left bank. These rooms are elegantly appointed with Louis XVI style furniture and marble bathrooms, as well as many modern amenities. They are also soundproofed and air-conditioned. With only 62 rooms in the hotel, the staff is able offer a higher level of personalized service. The Victoria Palace is just steps from fine dining, shopping and entertainment venues. |

"Pretty good for the price...Nice location."
We stayed here for five nights in May, exclusively because of the rating on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed and would stay again, even though I would not rate it as highly as many reviewers. We stayed in a Jr. Suite for 340 Euros a night, with 10 Euros more per day for internet hook up. Our room and bath were huge for a room under 500 euros that is not a boring chain hotel. HVAC worked well. Our room was quiet and comfortably furnished. If you don’t like wallpaper, you’ll be in trouble. The walls in every room are covered with intensely patterned fabric. (I have wallpaper in my DNA, so no problem for us.) The lighting in the bathroom was especially good, with a make up mirror to boot!
The décor is old Paris, not stylish, hip Paris. This is not a cool hotel, but it is located in a cool area in spite of the humdrum short street it’s on. It’s great being near the Jardin du Luxumbourg, Rue Cherch du Midi and Rue du Renne with fabulous shops. Bon Marche, the most luxurious department store in town is just 3 blocks away. The hotel has a nice little bar. The staff was generally ok. Ask for the little folders with recommended restaurants and nearby shops. They didn’t offer them, but I overheard another guest asking.
My main issues were the mediocre quality of the bed linens and poor quality of the lumpy pillows. Also we had a irksome problem with our phone at a moment that I was dealing with family medical emergency. In addition, I sent a skirt out to be pressed and it was sent back folded. There was no exception here to the usual French tendency of attempting to blame the problem on the person who has it, instead of apologizing and resolving it. However, we paid a third the price for a room equal in size and comfort to the room we usually take in a more hip hotel.
The current posted photographs capture the hotel very well.

"French, Formal and Oh so Lovely"
6nights at Victoria Palace -- French, Formal and Lovely
If you want to know that you are in Paris then stay at the Victoria Palace. The Rooms are traditionally decorated and oh so roomy for France. The bathrooms are great! Especially after walking over 12 hours a day, to come home to a deep marble tub is the best! Beds are comfortable and the pillows dont give you a neckache. I had a deluxe room and it was just all that you could ask for, my bathroom was very large, but be aware, other deluxe rooms can have smaller bathrooms. Because of my location i also had two additional big closets ( a total of 4 altogether) in the entry way to the room! Very quiet corner location. Rm 110. The ground floor is Zero. You cannot go wrong with this room. USE a travel agent to book this hotel. I got a rate that included breakfast and all taxes and it was over $150 Euros less then the stated rate, especially if you book way in advance. I had my reservation for over 6months.
Location: Just fine, within walking distance of cafes, St. Germain, Luxembourg Gardens, Bon Marche, Rue Cherche Midi, etc. Two convenient Metros. Special Note, the Montparnasse Metro Line feeds into many others and I found it the easiest and most effective to getting around the city. The St. Placide lines only really serves the St. Germain, Notre Dame and Latin quarter. Hotel sits on side street. Very important for noise control. Most all other hotels on very very busy streets. Dont miss the Rue Cherche Midi neighborhood, turn left when you leave the hotel and go over a couple of blocks. Famous Pouilane Bakery and adorable shops, keep walking and you will find anything you could look for.
Staff: Formal and Professional, they will answer any question you ask. Be specific, they know english but are very literal. You can exchange small amounts of money and even mail your postcards at the front desk. The door staff will speak every time you enter and leave. The rest of the staff kind of avoid eye contact unless you have a question. Not in a rude way, but in a "we dont want to bother you, kind of way."
Breakfast: Adequate. But you will find no better, american breakfast is non-existent and as it should be. You may get tired of the same thing every day but I advise you to do the breakfast, later in the day you will be glad. Try to get it included in your room rate. Ours was and then you feel like it is for free! If not many local patisseries around.
I would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend to everyone. I researched hotels for months, found none better for location, quality and comfort. After arriving and seeing how many of the hotels windows face Bustling NY type of streets i was oh so glad i chose this hotel.
Also special note, when in a taxi give cross streets, they wont know the tiny little street it sits on. They will know immediatley the cross streets. Enjoy your stay!

"Another Wonderful stay"
My friend and I stayed in a junior suite We visited this hotel last april and also had a junior sutie. The suite was spotless and there was plenty of room for the both of us. The staff were very friendly and professional. They accomodated our early checkin 10:00am as they did last year. This hotel has a very lovely parisian feel to it and the two community rooms off the hotel lobby are delightful. Location was also good in the 6th. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

"Tres Romantique!"
This was the final leg of our honeymoon in France, and the Victoria Palace did not disappoint! Very friendly and helpful staff, Aurore personally showed us to our room and explained all about the hotel and surrounding area. The location is very convienient, and the walk to the Seine, Latin Quarter and St. Germaine is very easy and pleasant. Don't forget to visit the Jardin Luxembourg nearby for a relaxing time in a beautiful park.
We asked the staff on two occasions to recommend a good restaurant, and both were fabulous...C'est Mon Placieux and Christine were both great dining experiences that we will definitely revisit.
