Ok
Don't get a room on the street side because the noise (bars mainly) might not let you sleep. The hotel is not very clean, but the fact is that the price is rather low. |

I stayed at the Viengtai as part of an Intrepid tour and I really liked it. Excellent air-conditioning (which was a bonus after staying in places without it), clean & comfortable rooms, friendly staff & the location was good. Breakfast was simple but adequate. The reception staff were very helpful and I was able to leave a bag there safely while I traveled elsewhere which was great. It has a pool and overall I really liked the Viengtai and would stay there again. The room service was great.

Don't bother with their taxi service, it's expensive and has no air-con! Step outside the hotel and get a meter-taxi.

"Cheap and cheerful hotel!"
Me and my boyfriend have stayed in this hotel several times and I think some of the previous reviews are overly harsh. I agree the rooms are a little tired and in need of a lick of paint, however for us the location was great, its 1 block from Khao san road but far away enough to get away from it all. Breakfast was lovely and we found that the hotel staff were really friendly and very helpful. The staff even remebered us from the previous year and we recieved a really warm welcome. If you want a five star hotel then you need to pay five star prices. Overall this hotel is cheap, cheerful, clean and friendly.

The location for the hotel is great. Having been to Bangkok several times, I really prefer staying in this area of town rather than the modern hotels near Siam Square and the World Trade Center.
This area is more of a backpackers area, and the streets do smell like sewage, but feels more like Thailand than the more modern parts of town. It is also such a bustling area, fun to walk around it. Great restaurants nearby and lots of shopping. The hotel is steps away from Khao San road, tucked in a quieter side street, and is one of few hotels in an area dominated by smaller guesthouses. The building is old (as are most in the area) and the rooms are satisfactory and good value.
There are many temples and interesting markets within easy walking distance. The Grand Palace, Wat Po, are also short taxi rides away. If you want to experience the interesting part of Bangkok, this is the part of town to stay in.
