"Vila Gale All the WAY!" My best friend and I stayed at Vila Gale Atlantico for a month and had a great time! We are males aged 22 years. The hotel staff were extra nice, very helpful and would definatley go the extra mile for us (Serges, Bruno, and Diana and more, just cant remember their names!). I have to admit the resort was a little out of the way from Albufeira (it is to the west in Gale) and if you dont rent a car you are kind of stranded! The shuttle bus goes like back and forth twice a day into Albufeira, but you cant see all of the Algarve with a shuttle bus! We rented a car for the full month (economycarrentals.com before you go CHEAPEST on the net! Whole month for $425 Can, brand new reneault Clio, unlimited). There are grocery stores close by, the Ali Super just to the right when you leave the hotel with the laundry service above it (dont go to that laundry service, the guy is an ***hole, plus very slow service). Ali super had the basics, but I found it a little pricey, theres also a awsome cafe in that plaza that is sometimes open on random nights. We chose to do our grocery shopping at the Modelo which is in Albufeira in a small mall to the south side when driving along the main road, it is like a big store that were used to grocery shop in Canada. Please bring your OWN Ketchup and DEFINATLEY MUSTARD from home, they dont know how to make it! Ok back to the hotel, bring your own bathing cap for the pool, ya its kind of stupid but I guess their really afraid of catching lice here or something and they make you buy one for 3.50 Euros before you can use their indoor pool. The outdoor one was too cold to swim in when we where there and was constantly being remodeled, kind of noisy outside sometimes with construction, but whatever, its gotta get done sometime right? Parking here is free. The maids are really nice and very thoughtful, they wont hesitate to go out of the way for you! Dont use your room phone, it is a rip off at 50 euro cents a call, ask to use the free one at the lobby, and if you have a phone card with a 800 number you cant use the phones in the room, you must use the one in the lobby! The restaurant in the hotel is HORRIBLE! Wayyy overpriced and bad food. Check out surounding restaurants (Casa de Carne was great) In Albufeira the strip with all the bars and clubs and all the night excitment is refered to as the New Town. There try the Canadian Bar where we where able to watch the Leafs games on saturdays, the Tic Tac Bar, Matt's (great live bands), the Old town (which is closer to Gale is Old Town, easy huh?) The old town pretty much consists of restuarants, all with a representative outside of each restaurant trying to get you to come to eat at their restaurant, gets annoying. Try Ithica 1&2, good ribs. We also saw all of the Algarve, I suggest buying a map from the store to get an idea, also free maps are given away at the Ali Super, but they are limited to the surounding area. Check out all of the Algarve! we drove out west (best part of the Algarve is central and west, east on the way to spain is kind of dull, and smells HORRIBLE, terrible sewer system especially Olhao!! Dont go! Take the excursions with Best Day Tours if you want to see things outside of the Algarve! Their priced great, include nights stay. We took one to Lisbon for 2 days one night for 80 euros, which was better off than paying for the costly gas in europe to drive there and pay for a room. Also the Spain Gibralter trip is GREAT!! You can reach Best Day Tours at the Modelo mall in Albufeira, they have a booth there! Check out Faro, they have a great mall with movie theaters in english! Theres also a malll north of Albufeira thats great too. Pans and Co. (its like their subway) Stinks! little bang for your buck. If you go to the KFC, Mcdonalds plaza in Albufeira theres a self serve laundry there, but works out the same if you get someone to do the washing for you, also a great internet cafe there thats about 2 euros for an hour, way better than the hotels one! Go to West Algarve where Sagres is (once thought to be the end of the world by the early day explorers) The Lagos Zoo is OK, but dont expect something half as good as the metro toronto zoo, youll be disapointed! Check out Zoo Marine! Loved the trip and will go back again soon I hope!
