  Hotel Information

A Harmonious Marriage Of The Authentic Renaissance Structure And Present Day Modern Comfort...

Villa Florentine Hotel is set in a converted 16th century Renaissance convent perched atop the Old Town overlooking Lyon, two kilometres from its centre.

The building where today one finds “La Villa Florentine” was built in the 16th century on two lots of lands.

Since 1707, the building accommodated “La Maison de Providence” belonging to religious Trinitarians, established by Louise-Blanche-Thérèse de BALLON. They had the responsibility of educating poor young girls until the age of 20, so that at their departure from the “Providence” they were able to earn a living.

The chapel building, where you now have the hotel reception, was built between 1736 and 1741.

"wonderful service "
At Villa Florentine Hotel, stayed in a room just above the kitchen so there was some noise at night. This was such a small negative though in comparison to the fantastic room and the wonderful service that we received. The bed was HUGE, the room was a very handsome size as well.

Villa Florentine Hotel is very nice hotel - well located - walking distance to all major attractions- old city. Rooms are beautiful and spacious. Restaurant was excellent.

"Charming"
We booked in on impulse to the Villa Florentine and I am surprised at some of the other reviews I have read since returning home. We found it to be lovely, although we only stayed one night and did not eat in. There are a number of steps to the Old Town but it is not an unpleasant experience (although I guess I am reasonably fit). The room is a good size with wooden floors and fabulous views of the old town, complimentary apples and great views of the Old Town. A lovely clean marble bathroom with great water pressure and fabulous smelling bath gels, etc. My hubby loved the soft fluffy robe! The bed was massive and comfortable and the room dark and quiet at night (imperative for a light sleeper like me). Staff were not overwhelmingly friendly but helpful and efficient. Not very helpful in recommending a restaurant, but I suppose that is not surprising as they would not have a feel for our budget, taste, etc as we had just walked in off the street. Car valet service was good. If you stay anywhere near the old town go to Les Loges for dinner - incredible food. I decided to ignore my animal-friendly principles for one night and did not regret it - I had the most amazing foie gras ever made! A must! I would definitely stay at VF again.

"Did not want to leave!"
Staying here was a truly beautiful experience. I stayed three nights and had a low price from Expedia. There are lovely terraces with views of the city. They have a refreshing outdoor swimming pool, which I used everyday and where a pile of fresh towels magically appeared every time I swam. As for the service, I had some messages that were received and passed along to me right away, I got great advice about sightseeing, room service arrived minutes after I placed an order, and on the national holiday, they called me before their kitchen closed to make sure I could dine if I wanted to. I wish I had booked a table, just for the experience, but I wasn't hungry. Even the bowl of apples, decorating the night stand, turned out to be the most delicious apples I have had all year. If I returned to Lyon, I would choose Villa Florentine.

"Fantastic"
A truly lovely hotel and a great location for visting Lyon- as long as you are prepared to walk the 220 steps up/down from the hotel to the Old Town! Worth every step. Concierge at hotel incredibly friendly and helpful. Room was classed as standard but found it to be to be very lovely and large and spotless, with a view to die for and absolutely NO noise. Breakfast was very nice, but possibly not worth 19euros as very small selection for hotel of this calibre. Visited Lyon during the Festival of Light and highly recommend this time of year - very festive, shops open on Sundays, xmas market and great atmosphere on the streets.

"Best place to stay in Lyon"
The hotel is settled on Fourviere hill, right above the old town (staircase!) Be sure to get a room with city view! Keep your curtain open during night, so you'll be woken by sunrise over Mont Blanc on the horizon! Swimming in the pool is also recommended, Lyon lies to your feet.
