"fantastic"
We stayed here for 4 nights during our honeymoon, the service was the best we have have ever received, it was a trully relaxing place, the veiws and the sheer luxury of the hotel made it magical. The staff here were so helpfull and friendly. The only dissapionment we had was the food in the restaraunt, the breakfast was lovely however we ate there on our first night and for the money we paid (aroung £100 a head) it was less than tasty! However saying that the atmosphere alone was worth it.
It doesnt get much better than lying on the loungers getting waited on with ice cold drinks and cold flannels brought to you to cool you down in the hot sunshine.

"A haven in Tuscany"
We spent our honeymoon at Villa La Massa for 10 glorious days in July 2005. The hotel was beautiful, very comfortable and provided a superb level of service. The bathrooms were particularly luxurious.
Set a short distance from Florence, we could enjoy and relax in the peace and tranquility of the wonderful hotel grounds and shuttle into town each afternoon to enjoy Florence. We enjoyed the great gym and massages at the hotel. Not much to do in Candelli, so useful to have a car to explore around Florence and countryside.
The hotel staff were at all times gracious and extremely helpful. While we stayed during busy season, it always felt remarkably private and we rarely saw other guests around the hotel. The food and service at the restaurant was terrific, but more expensive than dining in town. The wine cellar is well stocked and the staff are very knowledgeable.
We loved every moment of our time at Villa La Massa and are already looking forward to our next trip.

"Paradise For Couples"
We stayed at Villa La Massa for the second half of our honeymoon in Italy and we have nothing but fond memories of our stay there. The staff was incredibly friendly all the way from Alexander the pool manager, the staff in the restaurant, Il Verrocchio, to Louie our nightly entertainment. The grounds were superb. The room impeccable. What a lovely way to get away from it all.
Villa La Massa is close enough to downtown Florence that you can enjoy all it has to offer. The Villa provides daily shuttle service for free that drops you right near the Ponte Vecchio - it's a 5 minute walk (10 minute stroll) from the drop point to the Ufizzi. After a long day in town you're whisked back to the comforts of the Villa where you can enjoy a quiet late afternoon by the pool and an amazingly well prepared and presented meal at Il Verrocchio.
If you go and you enjoy wine don't hesistate to ask the front desk to arrange a private driver to take you through Tuscany. We were lucky and got a fellow named Marcos. He was quite friendly and incredibly informative. Even though it was short notice (we had not made reservations with any of the Cellars) he got us in at a tour at Altesino Cellars. We had a lovely afternoon in Montalcino, and were fortunate enough to get into a couple of other wineries. It was wonderful!
Many folks may shy away from Villa La Massa because of the price. My suggestion to you is that you only live once. If you're traveling to Italy from the U.S. you owe it to yourself to indulge a bit. I would highly recommend you take at least 3-4 days here - you won't regret it. We hope and intend to go back soon!!!

"99% Wonderful"
Incredibly charming and peaceful ... great place for a honeymoon or couple's retreat. The views and location on the river are very romantic. Lovely decor. Service was nearly impeccable, formal but friendly.
I agree with the other reviewer's comment that charging 7 euro per 15 minutes for internet access is odd. That said, we used the computer for hours and they only charged us for 45 minutes, so I think they're catching on.
The restaurant has somewhat of an old-school fine dining experience, with white jacketed waiters zipping around you. The food was standard, nothing amazing, especially considering the price. Excellent wine list, natch.
Shuttle service to Florence is a huge plus.
Our only complaint was that we asked the front desk to get us tickets for the Uffizi ... our main reason for being in Florence. To their credit, getting tickets is no small feat, but we we extremely disappointed to find out that they managed to get the tix but forgot to tell us! We spent a whole day in our room waiting, and made several trips to the lobby, talked to the front desk, etc., and everyone somehow forgot to let us know that the tickets were there. At any other hotel in Italy this wouldn't have surprised us, but felt strangely out of place compared to the excellent service we received at this hotel. Ah well! I still highly recommend VLM!
