Terribly Disappointed
We arrived in Lisbon , Portugal on July 31, 2008 and our first stop was at the VIP Veneza Hotel. The room was much smaller that I expected and rather dark. The locations was good as is was close to all the attractions in downtown Lisbon.
When we were about to check out of the hotel on August 2nd. I took my passport book out of the safe. I put my money in my passport book and so I proceeded to count my money and I noticed that my 100 Euro bill was missing, then I counted again and I noticed that my 50 Euro bill was missing. I counted again and a total of 320.00 Euros were gone from my money. My husband counted his money and he noticed that 250.00 Euros were gone from his money. We were SHOCKED! Never has anything like this happened to us before. We have travelled through Europe on many occassions and not once has something been stolen out of our safe. We spent over 4 hours filling out a police report. Apparently, the porter who showed us how to use the safe did not put the key in the correct position at the back of the safe's door, so although it sounded and looked like the safe was locked, it could be opened up easily. The the theif left enough money so that they thought that we would not notice anything was missing, but they probably didn't think that we would actually count our money before we left.
Anyway - we have been trying to get the hotel to pay us back this money and we entrusted them with our valuables in their hotel room safe, but we have not heard back from them.
So... please be forewarned - make sure that your hotel safe actually is safe!
I do not recommend this hotel.

"lived up to my expectations"
Vip Inn Veneza Hotel was a relatively small hotel in comparison with the monstrocities that surrounded it. Beautifully designed from the outside and full of character the hotel Veneza lived up to my expectations. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a room that looked out onto the main Avenue LIberdade and due to the windows being double glazed, every nights sleep was peaceful. |

"Cant beat the location"
We visited Lisbon in the beginning of September, 2003 and stayed for a week at the Hotel Veneza. The room was on the third floor, at the back with an ok view of a court with greenery and entrance to a parking.
We were happy with the standard of the hotel and the room; which was quite spacious and silent. The breakfast is served in a little room so you might have to wait for a few mintes for a table. The staff was friendly and service minded.
The hotel is located ideally at the main avenue a short walk from downtown. The way is lined with shops and cafés (both outdoor and indoor) and trees.
The hotel has a magnificent main staircase but it was closed our entire stay (seemt to be permanently so) and the visitor is directed to elevators or a rather smalish staircase further in the hotel.
We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Veneza and definitely recommend it to other visitors.

"Veneza is lovely, quaint, and comfortable"
We stayed at the Hotel Veneza in March for 6 nights and loved it. It was right in the middle of all going on, and within walking distance to just about anywhere. (Also right by the sub station) Veneza was once family's residence...our room was on top floor, towards the back of the hotel. It was quiet, the view was lovely, and the bathroom was large and newly remodeled. The roof sloped sharply in our room and it took some bumped heads to get used to it. Everything was very clean and well-kept. The bed was a king and very comfortable. The breakfast buffet in the morning was excellent as well, and included cereal, fruit, rolls, meats and cheese, breads, and pastries. The staff was good, and some spoke some English. Overall, this is an excellent base for exploring Lisbon. We would definitely stay here again!
