Hotel Information
A Landmark Among Downtown Washington DC Area Hotels
In1843, Thomas Circle was a quiet residential neighborhood. In fact, the site of the current Washington Plaza was home to Andrew Wylie, presiding judge in the Lincoln assassination conspiracy trial. Nearly 120 years later, in 1962, the International Inn hotel chain opened the current property and changed the face of hotels in the Washington DC area once and for all. Architect Morris Lapidus -- known for the Fountainebleu and Eden Roc in Miami Beach -- insisted on designing a resort-like property that focused on the needs of the guests - not the owners. The resulting nine-story edifice on Thomas Circle was the talk of the town ... with its curving corridors, strong graphic elements, and sensational swimming pool. Ideally located close to the excitement of Capitol Hill and the area's most popular DC monuments, this downtown Washington DC area hotel continues to be a favorite among savvy business and leisure travelers.
