A prime example of luxury and perfection...
Westin Excelsior hotel's presence on Piazza Ognissanti is impressive, featuring newly refurbished guest rooms, a professional staff dedicated to impeccable service. Sitting high on the banks of the Arno River, the hotel also offers spectacular panoramic views of the city. The historical hotel is a member of the Starwood luxury collection.
Magnificent 15th century building is centrally located on the banks of the River Arno in the heart of the historic centre, nearby the most famous works of art and elegant shopping streets. The hotels design express the riches of tuscany using tapestries, frescoes, stained glass, marble and walnut.
In the 15th century the building was known as Casa Rucellai, home of a noble Florentine family. The building was purchased by Caroline Bonaparte in 1833. She commissioned the works to restructure the building completely in 1862 by Giuseppe Martelli. In 1925, Gerardo Kraft closed down the building which was re-opened in 1927 as the Excelsior Italie. In 1997, the Westin Excelsior entered a new phase of its history when a thorough restoration and renovation was completed. The renovation was a prime example of the luxury collections philosophy in such matters, which aims to highlight those historical and architectural features of its hotels, that best enhance their affinity with the atmosphere and style of their host cities. The public areas colors and light are inspired by the hills of Tuscany which enhance the splendour of its interiors: terracotta, frescoes, marble and precious woods. |

"One of my all time favs"
We had a wonderful room on the 5th floor with a huge balcony overlooking the river. It was the most amazing view i've ever had from a hotel room. The staff was great, very reasonibly priced for such an amazing hotel, if you go to florence please try to stay here if you can (and request an arno side room on the top floor!)

"Christmas Romance"
Excellent hotel located nearby all the main Florence attactions.
We received a room upgrade and the corner room was very spacious and one of the most comfortable hotel rooms we have ever stayed in. The bathroom had a separate toilet and door to an outside balcony. The bedroom also had its own balcony. The church bells across the road ring at 7 am each morning, which surprised us the first morning, but by the second morning we were used to them and simply rolled over and kept on sleeping in the very comfortable bed.
Room service was quickly and elegantly served. The restaurant food was delicious (often with live music - Sunday brunch and evenings). Breakfast is good, but at 40 Euros a person expensive so best to obtain a room rate with breakfast included.
The concierge was very helpful and the hotel staff treated us as if we were the only guests in the hotel (even though the entire AC Milan football team was staying at the hotel).
Florence can be very crowded and the period just before Christmas is charming and a delightful time to visit.

"Splendid Experience!"
It’s really hard to put into words the experience this hotel offers. Situated on the banks of the Arno River and a ten minute walk from the train station, this hotel has it all. We greeted warmly by hotel staff and were given a lovely interior room with a very large bathroom. The room had two large French doors that opened into an interior courtyard which made the room bright and airy. Since the hotel bar was under renovation, we were not able to take full advantage of all the hotel amenities. There was a temporary bar setup in a room off the main lobby. There was nothing really special about it, not even the cheesy music the piano player played each night could help. Rest assured that the new bar will be amazing. If you have the money, this hotel is well worth the splurge!!

"Love it!"
My husband and I stayed here with our 2 young children for 2 nights in August. We used starwood points and were upgraded to a wonderful junior suite.
Originally we had booked one night, as we were staying in a villa in Lucca but we didn't want to just do a daytrip into Florence. However, as soon as we checked in, saw our gorgeous room with terrace and Arno view, and experienced the wonderful service from the doorman, the concierge and the check-in staff, we immediately booked a second night.
