"Great Short Stay at the Westin Times Square"
My husband and I live in NJ and stayed at the Westin Times Square for 1 night because we were in town for a Bob Seger concert. Overall, this was a very nice hotel and we are used to staying at very nice properties (Ritz, Four Seasons, etc). I'll break this down in sections for easy reference.
Location: The location of this hotel is terrific. Located between 44th and 43rd streets it is close to the shows and many attractions. We walked to the Garden and it took us only about 10-15 min. We were right across from Madame Tussaud's.
Check-in: We arrived about 4pm on a Thurs night. We waited only a few minutes and then the Valet took our car. It was $45 for valet parking and $25 for self park. We opted for the valet. It was cold and we were prepared for high prices, this is NYC. When we go away whether a long vacation or short over night, we budget for expenses. We were then sent up an escalator to the lobby. It is modern and sleek like the rest of the hotel. It's not the same Ritz gliz, but sleek and understated. Both are nice in their own right. There was no line and they took us right away. They had a little trouble finding my reservation, but since I had my confirmation printed out, they located it in short order. I had made a change from club room to corner deluxe upper floor that morning so things got a little mixed up (my fault). That brings us to the room.
Room: All I can say is WOW. When I explained to the desk clerk that I changed rooms because I heard (from this forum) that club level rooms were not on the highest floor and I wanted a good view, he said, "so you want a good view, I'll give you one." And what view he gave us. When he gave us the key and it said "4429", my husband said I looked so happy. I said "Wow, a "29" room. The 29 rooms are the rooms you want if you are looking for a view. We were on the 44th floor one side (3 windows) facing the Hudson River and Empire State Building, and the other the city and Times Square. This view was amazing. The room decor was sleek like the rest of the hotel. Done in black, grey and beige, with a splash of orange. The bathroom was not large, but well done with a stainless steel sink and black and white decor. We could even see the Hudson from the bathroom! There was a nice flat screen TV. The room was very clean.
Restaurant: We ate both dinner and breakfast at Shula's. The steak was superb and the service top notch. I had a barbeque shrimp appetizer that was very nice. The creme brulee and cheesecake were both amazing. Large portions. Once again, expensive, but it's NYC and we budgeted for it.
Sightseeing: We didn't have much time, but we stopped by Madame Tussaud's. I love this place. I have been to the one in London and this was is just as fun.
Overall, even though it's not the plush elegance of the Ritz, the location and views make it some place I would definitely return to. If you want a view, ask for a "29" room on a high floor. I'm glad I read the reports on this forum about the club rooms being on a lower floor or I would have been disappointed. We always get a club room, since they are usually on high floors, but not so here. All the staff that we encountered were very nice and helpful. This place is a really great place to stay in NYC.

"Fabulous!"
We stayed here for 4 nights and loved every moment. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade so had the benefit of a high room with superb views.
The location of the hotel was excellent and the staff very helpful.
Would recommend this hotel to couples who like to be close to all the shops, bars and restaurants.
Try out the revolving restaurant 'The View' in the Marriott Marquis, Times Square, fab views and the foods good too!

"INSIDER TIP: "Don't pay extra for the Club Lounge!""
We're SPG Platinum so the club lounge is free, but for anyone paying the extra money for a Club Room is going to be sorely disappointed!
Here's what made us laugh:
The lounge charges $5 for wine or beer, which is only available from 6-8pm. The cabernet was a thumbs down, but an inexpensive lesson considering it's $21 for the small bottle of cabernet from the mini-bar. Be careful: they use the automatic sensor system so if you pick it up, you get charged! I'm sure the hotel removes charges for items that weren't actually consumed, so be sure to review your bill before paying.
Another first during breakfast - boiled eggs in ice water! We've been to several countries and hundreds of hotels in the US but this made me say, "Huh?!? I don't get it....." - the eggs are peeled, which is a nice gesture, but why ice water? Why not warm water?
Lastly, my dad complained there wasn't any fruit but, alas there was! I jokingly pointed to the baskets of green apples. I guess we've just been spoiled by the Westin Shanghai or the Sheraton Frankfurt where there's a variety of freshly cut fruit, free drinks all day, a large spread of hot and cold foods (not Nutri-Grain bars or bags of potato chips) and bacon, potatoes and made-to-order eggs in the morning.
This is a wonderful hotel, but I would hate to see anyone waste their money on a Club Room (which by the way are on the 8th floor, low enough to hear the sirens and honking, so if you're a light sleeper, then this is definitely not for you!).
PS - broadband internet in the room is $14.95 + tax for 24 hours. The hotel says the wireless internet access is no longer free in the lobby but I've noticed you can still get online, though it's a little iffy.... for example it would work on a certain page, but when I would click on a link, it would reroute to the Westin login page. A little frustrating, but if you just need to check emails, you might want to try the lobby first before accepting the daily rate charge.

"Can't wait to go back!"
This hotel is brilliant! The 'Heavenly Beds' and Heavenly Shower' were worth the money alone!
For the US, the rooms are really good size and the bathrooms are lovely and the staff are helpful and friendly.
Shula's Steakhouse within the hotel, quite rightly, has a reputation as one of the best steakhouses in New York - it really is a must.
The hotel's location couldn't be better -you just turn right, walk to the end of the street and you're in the middle of Times Square.
Broadway is also right on the doorstep (make sure you go to John's Pizza Restaurant here - a favourite of Woody Allen and Danny De Vito!)
Central Park and 5th Avenue are also easy to walk to. And just take a short walk to the West side of the river to tget a Cruise around Manhattan which is a real eye-opener and well worth the money (as is a visit to the nearby Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum).
New York is so safe now - we stayed on Times Square til the early hours of the morning and never felt uneasy (the police presence is reassuring and they really do follow the 'zero tolerance policy') - if only Britain would follow suit!
We can't wait to go back to the Westin!

"Heavenly Beds - Oh Yes!"
I booked the hotel directly through their website and got a fab 3 nights for the price of 2 deal! I have to say, it was a fantastic offer and we immediately upgraded to a deluxe corner city view room due to the great rates. It was well worth it! We got a room on the 32nd floor and had amazing views with windows all round us being a corner room. We could even see the Statue of Liberty from our room - cool! The room was a great size, lovely and clean. Most importantly the heavenly beds, were indeed heavenly. Just the ticket after a long day walking and sightseeing. A great nights sleep. The bathroom was also fab and also very clean. There was lots of tourist info available being a first time visitor to NY. I would definitely come to NY again and would highly recommend a stay in the Westin. We had drinks in the bar every night and the prices were average for a hotel bar - not overly expensive. The music was great as was the staff and service - very friendly. It was a great place to relax after a long day of shopping!! The hotel is really central, 1 block away from Times Sq, everything was within easy walking distance. We got a bus from Newark airport to the Port Authority bus terminal which was right round the corner from the hotel. Ideal not having been to NY before.

"Great hotel, Great location cannot wait to go back to New York City"
We went to New York City for four nights at the begining of August 2006.
I looked at lot on this site for hotel reviews and when it was time to reserve a lot of the hotels were already full. We picked the Westin Time Square New York because it was well located and it is right, you are right into Time Square, ten minutes to Empire State Building, ten minutes to Rockfeller Plaza, shopping on fifht avenue minutes away, Broaway shows all around the hotel.
Hotel is nice and the location is secure. The room was big enough for the four of us. No noise from outside. The beds are very comfortable.
We love New York and we cannot wait to go back. I would definitely recommand this hotel.
