"Great week!"
We have just returned from a week at Windjammer with several family and friends who came with us to be at our wedding (which was on Pigeon Island). We had a fantastic time there, I cannot understand some of the negative reviews, particularly concerning the food, we all thought it was excellent! We didn't use the shuttle service much as our villa was a fairly pleasant walk away, in fact we much preferred to walk it, at least we could kid ourselves that we managing to get a small amount of exercise! The beach BBQ is fantastic, but yes, you do have to book. I can't comment on the prices of food and drink as we were all inclusive and didn't really take much notice of the prices on the menus. But certainly Jammers during the day is lovely for lunch, and we all liked the Upper Deck, Dragonfly and Papa Dons too. The breakfast is very difficult to beat, surely?! We went to the beach every day and never had a problem with towels - someone said they rarely had any and even then they were ripped - well 12 of us went to the beach every day for a week and never experienced that. The only negative I would say from my own experience is the outrageously selfish behaviour of some people who deem it perfectly acceptable to put towels down on the sunbeds by an umbrella at 7.30 in the morning and think they are theirs for the day. We regularly got to the beach for around 9am to find every bed near the umbrellas had a towel on it, and the owners of these towels then never showed up until lunchtime! So utterly selfish! I did have fantasies whereby on my last day I would gather up all their towels and return them all to the towel hut (as you have to pay $25 if you lose your towel ticket), but I got up too late and by then I was on St Lucia time and had chilled out!!! I will be writing to the management to suggest they put a stop to this practice as we had small children with us who really did need some shade and unless you come to the beach to stay, I really don't see why you should think a towel on a bed makes it yours no matter what time you deign to show up.

"Very relaxing stay at the Windjammer"
My wife and I just returned from a relaxing vacation at the lovely Windjammer. It was our first time in St. Lucia which is a gorgeous island with lush green foliage everywhere, so that in itself was a treat. The Windjammer was exactly what we were looking for - a quiet, pretty, well-maintained, luxurious, place to chill and have a little "fun in the sun." We did the all-inclusive plan but found that we didn't eat and drink enough to justify the cost. However, that said, it was nice not to think twice about ordering an extra appetizer or another Pina Colada. After all, that was one of the main objectives of our trip - to just relax, de-stress and not think about ANYTHING. WJ staff were friendly enough and they have some low key activities, like beach bowling and pool aerobics to keep you entertained. However, there is no pressure to participate and it's not one of those places where someone is tapping on your shoulder every 30 seconds to participate in a congo line. If you want that WJ is not a good choice. However, if you want to be left alone to your own devices, with enough activities at your disposal, then WJ is perfect for you - as it was for us. (Oh, and if you're a young couple hoping to meet others like you, you'll have a tough time at WJ. The crowd is mostly 50 and up, or young families with kids. Again, it was fine for us because we wanted to be hermits for a week anyways, but...) The food was good, but not great. My wife and I consider ourselves gourmet "foodies" (read: food snobs) so our standards are high...but for the most part the food at WJ was uninspiring. Our favourite spot was Papa Don's which serves pizza and pasta but also a decent rack of lamb. Dragon Fly is billed as the "fancy" joint but we weren't impressed at all. Surprisingly, the seafood we had at WJ was pretty mediocre, whereas the meat dishes were pretty good. Breakfast is a buffet at Dragon Fly and it was consistently good, with omlette bar, etc. Some people on this site complain about the "hike" to the villas, but don't listen to them. With all the eating and loafing, it's nice to have a brisk walk a couple times a day. Or, if you're feeling lazy (or your wife refuses to wear sensible shoes when you head down for dinner...grrrr) there's the shuttle buses. They're reliable and literally take a minute or two to get to you. The villas themselves were a big highlight. Each villa has two balconies - one covered and one open-air which was great for tanning and watching the gorgeous sunsets. The villas have a lot of character - much better than a stuffy, cookie-cutter hotel room. (sorry, just to clarify, we stayed in a normal Ocean View room which was technically not a "villa" but I use the term villa to contrast it with what you'd find at say, Sandals). Final thoughts: -wear a lot of sunscreen bc you don't realize how hot the sun is, and there's little shade on the beach -go into town (Castries) once, but that's enough -sign up for snorkelling: they take you 5 min away where the water is clearer -have patience with the servers...they'll ask you "are you enjoying your meal???" every 10 minutes, which is annoying but you gotta give them credit for trying -you're automatically charged 10% for service charge when you order food/drink so keep that in mind when tipping

"Lovely villas"
Stayed at Windjammer landing from January 29th, 2007 until February 12, 2007, this would be our third time in St Lucia, and our second time at Windjammer Landing. A little background, we stayed last year on the same dates in a full one bedroom villa with plunge pool and kitchen, beautiful, but this time we thought why waste the money on a villa with a kitchen when we are on holidays and dont want to cook, therefore the first week of this vacation we stayed at one of the one bedroom base villas with no kitchen or pool, unit 140A, to save money. Unfortunately once you have stayed in a big villa, there is no going back! The one bedroom was just big enough to hold the queen sized bed and a dresser with TV, these villas are also older and seem dirty, but they are cleaned and its just a product of their age. The plus side to this villa is the balcony......very large with a staircase to another balcony on the roof for the ultimate in sun worship. I will also add that this unit can connect with another unit below to increase its size for larger families, hence the "A" and "B" letters. For those of you that have read that this resort has alot of hills, of coarse it does, but this perticular unit is really not that far from one of the restaurants, spa, and two of the pools, thus the location of this villa was great. The second week we switched to a bigger villa( unit 214) with a seperate master bedroom and a hot tub on the deck....much better, seemed cleaner and more in line with what we are used to based on last years stay. Thats it for the villas, as for the service, its great to Caribbean standards, your on holiday so why rush anything!! the shuttles that pick you up from your villa( should you not wish to walk the steep hills, though you should for good health) are efficient with pleasant drivers. The food is excellent at all the restaurants in the resort, but I would just skip going to the most expensive "dragonfly" restaurant as it does not offer good enough value for the buck. The staff are excellent and always say hello in passing, the only downside with the staff is the time share salespeople, its not that they are not nice, but they can be persistant, calling me everyday for a week to come and listen to their pitch The one other annoying part was that I over paid my room bill by $100 US, and I paid cash and they had no record of it, really it was my fault for not asking for a receipt for US cash instead of EC because I was cheated with the exchange ( at least I felt I was) When I caught the error the next week, the desk clerk Ricki made every attempt to locate it, but Caribbean accounting is not the same it seems.....advice....do not pay cash, or at least get a receipt in the denomination you paid in and check the math! $100 did not ruin my experience or vacation, and I would still highly recommend this resort, for beauty, service, food, and accomodation...see for yourself cheers
