Hotel Information
The Yangtze Hotel, designed by renowned architect Li Pan...

The Yangtze Hotel, designed by renowned architect Li Pan and completed in 1934 was at the time the third largest hotel in the Far East. The Yangtze Hotel, fashioned in the continental style and located in the heart of Shanghai's Central Business District, has been providing first-class service to guests for almost 70 years. In 1997, the Yangtze underwent a major refurbishment program, which saw the introduction of broadband Internet access to all rooms. In addition to this, FDDI services, electronic safes, fax machines, modern amenities, and voice-mail systems were made available in all rooms.

The Yangtze Hotel, the first Internet and E-Commerce ready hotel in Shanghai, with its 96 elegant guestrooms, state-of-the-art conference rooms and business centre, recreation facilities, and distinctly styled restaurants serving a wonderful array of delicious cuisines, is the natural choice for visitors to Shanghai. Whether you are an experienced business traveller who needs to be in touch and informed with all the latest developments at home, a tourist experiencing the delights of Shanghai for the first time, or a holiday-maker simply looking for a place to relax and enjoy a little ‘Olde World’ charm at a pace of your choosing, the Yangtze Hotel is the perfect solution.

"Good value for the money, great location"
Stayed in the hotel in Sep of 2005. Considering how close it is to all the sites of interest, food shopping etc. in Shanghai (Nanjing Lu is a small block away, the Bund is a 10-15 min walk) it is a bargain for a leisure traveler on a budget. The rooms are clean and have a very contemporary (if not futuristic) design, A few things might be a bit unsual: the toilet and the shower are actually in the room separated from it by a frosted window wall and a similar frosted flimsy door that leaves a crack when it closes: it looks cool, but does not give you much privacy. We visited between the winter and summer seasons, when some nights are warm, but some are cold. However, as it was still summer by their definition, the climate control system had only cooling and no heat. So if you get cold at night in the fall , all they can do for you is to give you extra blankets. The staff was friendly, but spoke only very basic english. The front desk was too busy at times: you would occasionally need to wait 10-15 mins to speak to the staff.

"Decent, dated, and downtown"
This is a decent, three-star hotel. It is in a busy part of town, so forego the views from the outside rooms and get one that faces the atrium. We did not expect the level of service that we'd had at the 5-star JC Mandarin a week earlier. Nevertheless, the location was great, and the staff was helpful in arranging tours, booking entertainment and transportation. If you are impatient with people that are not completely bilingual, this site would not be your cup of tea. When our advance booking for an inside room was not fulfilled, a brief protest resulted in an upgrade to a large, comfortable, interior room. The rooms have rather dim lighting, and the plumbing is a bit dated. The breakfast is modest but inexpensive (Y38), if not included in the room price. The building was constructed in the 30's and has some character, and the clientele was quite mixed.
