"Happy Birthday to me and a great hotel to compliment it!"
We stayed at the Hotel Zecchini for 3 nights, June 23, 24 & 25, 2005. It was a very nice hotel, room 33 (the same as the age I turned on my birthday, the day we checked in). It came with rather comfy twin beds, which was ideal for me, because of my back problems. The shower was a good stand-up stall, small, but adequate. Their was a hairdryer in the room, but if I remember correctly, this is the weird hairdryer that was a hose with a spout on the end. But, it did the job.
The window in the room faced the main street going by, but it was quiet and a nice view. Very Venice and very romantic. The only problem we had with this hotel was the fact that there was no lift, otherwise it was an excellent stay. The staff were nice and the breakfast buffet was good, we even got scrambled eggs and yogurt, which was a welcome sight from just bread. The breakfast room was a nice, neat, little room on the first floor; which would be considered second floor in North America.
If you are going to go to Venice, you need to stay in the true Venice. This hotel has a prime location located within a short walk from the train and accessible to all Venice has to offer. With a good map, some sense of direction and a good pair of walking sandals, you can cover the entirely of Venice over many times and still not see it all and have the convenience of this wonderful little hotel to return to. And, if you like to shop in markets for food, there is a major market (Billa, I think it was called) not too far away that has great deals for meals to take back to your room and picnic on your bed (2.99 euro for a small roast chicken and 2.49 euro for a large salad, enough for 2). Turn left out the main enterance and follow the main street through town, over a couple of bridges and you will find it on the left side of you on a corner block.
When I go back to Venice, this is definately the hotel where I will stay. It was quite perfect!
